An instrumental.
Based on a drop C
I’m going back through my notes trying to suss out how on earth we ended up playing it 🤔
When we booked the original sessions for the third album when Damon’s studio was in Burghfield, it was essentially to re-record the two Harley songs with the full Pred lineup.
As the previous recordings were just quickly done by Steve Jack and myself before I went into hospital.
And I wanted to re-record them with the full band to make them official Pred tracks.
Unfortunately, on the day Steve was delayed with his partner Becky in hospital up in Leeds, so we just messed about with a a couple ideas I had.
They were nothing really but luckily Dick Williams turned up to see how we were getting on so we stuck him on bass guitar and just jammed some things, and I think it is possible the the bones of this track was played at that time. I will look back and see if I can find it.
Ultimately, we didn’t get any further with the album as Damon then decamped to Swindon and to the glorious studio we ended up using❤ it seemed like a disaster on the day but we came away with much bigger ideas because we were just knocking bits and pieces around which actually re-shaped everything.😮
Looking back through my iPad recordings, I have found one where I’m trying to play Lovely, day in a drop C really badly and it fizzles out and I start playing what becomes 2:38 I actually hear myself going oh as I go into it.
So that’s probably how they got tied together, but if we ended up recording them the other way round and I didn’t use drop c on lovely day as I wanted it to sound a bit more optimistic.
So the track itself is all live and I have to say I really love it. I absolutely adore Steve’s Bass playing on it and Jacks drumming when he eventually comes in on the ride absolutely gorgeous feel with the snares off to start with and Charles gets some really great so real guitar sounds brilliant playing
I still am fascinated when I listen to it now just how great and how lucky I am to have players like these take effectively single cord and turn it into this .
I’m just hammering away in the background 😵💫I can’t even remember what the other chords I played were.
And it’s called 2:38 because ?
That’s how long the track lasts
And more and more as I realised the side one was coming together and it was only ever gonna be on vinyl it could also mean 2:38 in the morning
A nice calm dreamy transition
Into the next track.
Funny what you start out with and what it ends up becoming 🤩quite fascinating
Anyway, enjoy
